The Selecter were a British band from Coventry, formed at the end of 1970s they soon became one of the most important bands of the British ska movement and as such got alot of praise from the scooter scene in general.
A rarity at the time in that they were a ska band fronted by a female, Pauline Black. The name selecter comes from the Jamaican word for a music selecter (as in a DJ).
Along with The Specials they were pioneers of the UK Two Tone explosion. They were also featured musically in the cult film "Dance Craze" excerpts of which are on this page.
